Champions Cup 1974-75

(From 7-11-1974 to 10-04-1975)

COMPETITION SYSTEM

·          24 teams (domestic champions plus title holder) playing knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decides the winner.

·          The twelve teams qualified for the 1/4 Final round are divided into two groups of six. Every team plays against the other five in its group in consecutive home-and-away matches, so that every two of these games count as a single win or defeat (point difference being a decisive factor here). In case of a tie between two or more teams after this group stage, the following criteria is used to decide the final standing: 1) one-to-one games between the teams; 2) basket average; 3) individual wins and defeats.

·          The group winners and runners-up of the 1/4 Final round qualify for 1/2 Finals. The final is played at a predetermined venue.

(a) Following instructions from the Soviet government, CSKA withdrew before the league stage to avoid facing Maccabi Elite SC, in a period of diplomatic disputes between the USSR and Israel. Therefore, all the scheduled games of the Russian team are considered forfeits (2-0) for their rivals, although they are not computable in the final standing of the group. Later, FIBA banned CSKA with a two-year suspension in European competitions for this unjustified withdrawal.

(b) Game played in Tel-Aviv.

(c) Game played on 2-02-1975.
