European
League 1992-93
(From 10-09-1992 to 15-04-1993)
COMPETITION SYSTEM
·
42 teams (title holder, league champions and a variable
number of runners-up in some domestic championships) playing
knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score
of both games decides the winner.
·
The sixteen remaining teams after the knock-out rounds
enter an 1/8 Final Group Stage, divided
into two groups of eight playing
a round-robin. The final standing
is based on individual wins and defeats. In case of a tie between
two or more teams after this group stage, the following criteria
is used to decide the final classification: 1) number of wins
in one-to-one games between the teams; 2) basket average between
the teams; 3) general basket average within the group.
·
The top four teams from each group after the 1/8 Final
Stage qualify for a 1/4 Final Playoff (X-pairings, best of 3
games). · The four winners of the 1/4 Final Playoff qualify for the Final Stage (Final Four), played at a predetermined venue. |

||
* Games played a day before the reference date. (a) Game played in Las Rozas (Spain) on 6-10-1992. (b) Game played on 3-10-1992. (c) As a consequence of the Balkan War, KK Crvena Zvezda and KK Partizan had to withdraw from the competition because of an international ban on Yugoslavian teams. In the first case, Crvena Zvezda’s rival PAOK received a forfeit (2-0) in both games. In the second case, FIBA didn’t replace Partizan for another team in the 1/8 Final Group Stage, so the 15 qualified clubs had to be unevenly distributed in this round (a group of 8 teams and another of only 7). |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
