VI Intercontinental Cup (São Paulo 1972)

(From 26-01-1972 to 29-01-1972)

NOTE: Due to a general lack of interest and available competition dates, the Intercontinental Cup was interrupted for three years (from 1970 to 1973). However, in January 1972 FIBA organized an international tournament for national squads to commemorate the 150 anniversary of the Independence of Brazil. Later, when the original club competition was resumed in 1973 under the name Intercontinental Cup “William Jones” (to honor the secretary general of FIBA), the international basketball federation officially included this 1972 tournament for national teams as part of the competition history.
