COMPETITION SYSTEM

· Two teams access the Final Stage directly (host Greece and title holder Germany), and twelve more join them after a preliminary Qualifying Stage.

· The fourteen participating teams are divided in 2 groups of 7 teams each playing a round robin. In case that two or more teams finish level on points, their position is decided by their basket average.

· The top four teams in the two preliminary round groups advance to the quarterfinals (played as an X-pairing). The four winners after this knock-out round qualify for the semifinals (places 1-4).

· The two winners after the semifinals qualify for the final, whereas the two losers play a consolation final for the bronze medal.

FINAL

VENUE: OAKA (Athína)

DATE: 2-07-1995 (22:00 h)

ATTENDANCE: 20.000

REFEREES: George Toliver (USA), Nikolaos Pitsilkas (GRE)

FOULED OUT: Divac (28’), Bodiroga (xx’) / Kurtinaitis (26’), Sabonis (35’), Chomičius (xx’)

MVP: Aleksandar Ðorđević

[Incidents: In minute 38, Sabonis (who had already fouled out) received a technical foul for protesting from the bench an offensive foul called on Štombergas. After that, all the Lithuanian players went to the bench and looked as though they would refuse to continue. It took the intervention of several Yugoslavian players, led by Divac and Ðorđević (who went over to the Lithuanian bench to talk to their opponents), as well as a warning for a $50,000 fine, for the Lithuanians to take to the court once again.]
