PARTICIPANTS (23)

· Host nation: Germany.

COMPETITION SYSTEM

· The twenty-three participating teams are paired in a First Round (with one nation bye). The twelve winners advance to the Second Round, where they are joined by another six teams qualified after a Repass Round played by the losers of the First Round.

· In a similar way to the previous knock-out stage, the nine winners of the Second Round advance to the 1/8 Finals, where they are joined by another five teams qualified after a Repass Round played by the losers of the Second Round.

· The winners of the 1/8 Finals qualify for the 1/4 Finals. The four winners after this knock-out round advance to semifinals, whereas the losers enter a classification round for places 5-8. The two winners after the semifinals qualify for the final, whereas the two losers play a consolation final for the bronze medal.

VENUE: Reichssportfeld Tennisplatz 4 (Berlin)

DATE: 14-08-1936 (18:00 h)

ATTENDANCE: 870

REFEREE: Thomas Suvoong (CHN)

FOULED OUT (FOUR FOULS): xxx

[Incidents: The game was delayed 25 minutes over the official tip-off time (the actual starting time was 18:25 h) because the outdoor tennis court where the final was played was completely soaked by the rain. Although some efforts were made to remove the excess water, the constant rain falling over Berlin soon turned the clay court into a quagmire, and for this reason the players could not dribble or bounce the ball, resulting in a minimum score.]
